Made it for the apartment I was living in at the time. Looked pretty ugly but I didn’t care. I just wanted to make my own desk. Look closer...
A TABLE SAW >:D
I tore open one of those standing floor fans and used the motor to power a blade (JB welded straight to the rotor).
It was from a Seville Classics fan, so I scraped off some of the letters to say “EVIL CLASSICS.”
It was terrifying to use as a table saw. I used it once to cut a piece of MDF and then left it unplugged for good.
Unfortunately I had to dispose of the entire thing when I moved out 2 years later.

I’ve been meaning to build my own desk, but who has the time?

How did that even have enough power to cut through balsa?

Ha ha, nice!
My current desk is made from 2x4 and a piece of MDF. My dad made it for me for college... 11 years ago. It was built super-sturdy to be able to handle a pair of 17” CRT monitors. I’ve been debating on painting it or something.
I’ve also got it in my brain that I’d like to make a carbon fiber and aluminum desk - a single sheet of carbon fiber for the top, and some aircraft looking C-shaped legs. Something like this (side view):

Hmmm......I really really really want someone to film their own copy of Fury road inside and entirely using an Office Max. Oh god. It would be extremely viral.

Now that you’ve struck it down it has become more powerful than you can imagine.

I’ve been thinking of making one out of some nice unfinished wood and scrap metal shelving or something.

Thanks! I really do dig your design, looks very efficient. Looks like panel or 2 of 1/2 inch ply and some 2x4 scrap?

I should, as soon as my shitty Ikea desk starts breaking (soon) I’ll look into sourcing some materials.
